In 1928 he published his first novel, \u003ci\u003eDecline and Fall, \u003c\/i\u003ewhich was soon followed by \u003ci\u003eVile Bodies \u003c\/i\u003e(1930), \u003ci\u003eBlack Mischief\u003c\/i\u003e (1932), \u003ci\u003eA Handful of Dust\u003c\/i\u003e (1934) and \u003ci\u003eScoop\u003c\/i\u003e (1938). During these years he also travelled extensively and converted to Catholicism. In 1939 Waugh was commissioned in the Royal Marines and later transferred to the Royal Horse Guards, experiences which informed his \u003ci\u003eSword of Honour \u003c\/i\u003etrilogy (1952-61). His most famous novel, \u003ci\u003eBrideshead Revisited \u003c\/i\u003e(1945), was written while on leave from the army.
