He had previously been a newspaper reporter, a merchant seaman and a writer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and had studied opera and worked as a cinema translator in Italy. His first BBC assignments were on\u003ci\u003e 199 Park Lane\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eUnited!\u003c\/i\u003e and he was then given the chance to take over from Donald Tosh on \u003ci\u003eDoctor Who\u003c\/i\u003e. Although he never saw entirely eye to eye with producer Innes Lloyd, he remained in this post for over a year before moving on to edit another show, \u003ci\u003eFirst Lady\u003c\/i\u003e. He later returned to freelance writing, his greatest success coming in the early Seventies with the BBC's ecological drama \u003ci\u003eDoomwatch\u003c\/i\u003e, which he co-created with Kit Pedler. From the mid-Seventies he spent most of his time in Hollywood, writing for American films and TV series and teaching screen-writing courses at the UCLA Film School. He died on 31 August 1991, aged sixty-four.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eNicholas Briggs has been a prolific \u003ci\u003eDoctor Who\u003c\/i\u003e contributor since 1999, when he began work on the Big Finish \u003ci\u003eDoctor Who\u003c\/i\u003e audio dramas, for which he has written and directed extensively and is now Executive Producer. Nick is also an actor, and since \u003ci\u003eDoctor Who\u003c\/i\u003e’s return to television in 2005, he’s worked on set with all four of the new Doctors as the voice of the Daleks (also providing the voice of the Cybermen, and other aliens). Having spent most of his life in London, Nick now lives in Dorset with his wife and son, where he hopes life will be more peaceful...
