On his return to this country he joined the faculty at Columbia University, where he taught Japanese and initiated a course in the history of Japanese art. He retired in 1955. His published works include \u003ci\u003eThe Bamboo Broom\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eSurviving Works of Sharaku\u003c\/i\u003e (with Louis V. Ledoux), and \u003ci\u003eA Handbook of Japanese Grammar\u003c\/i\u003e. He has also translated H.
