He was the author of many novels, including \u003ci\u003eThe Diary of a Country Priest\u003c\/i\u003e, which, like \u003ci\u003eMouchette\u003c\/i\u003e, was adapted for film by Robert Bresson. His \u003ci\u003eDialogues des Carmelites\u003c\/i\u003e was used by composer François Poulenc as the libretto for the opera of the same title.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eFanny Howe was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and moved to California to attend Stanford University when she was seventeen. She has published several books of poetry and fiction and a collection of essays called \u003ci\u003eThe Wedding Dress\u003c\/i\u003e.
