Growing up in a small town, Mike found tutelage under Neil Vokes and Adam Hughes, while corresponding with Nexus creators Steve Rude and Mike Baron. After years working in indie press, his first big break was as an inker on \u003ci\u003eDaredevil\u003c\/i\u003e, and shortly after as penciler\/inker on DC’s version of \u003ci\u003eJudge Dredd\u003c\/i\u003e, then \u003ci\u003eFoot Soldiers\u003c\/i\u003e at Dark Horse Comics. During the mid-’90s comics crash, Mike moved back into indie comics, starting on his path of creator owned comics with \u003ci\u003eShip of Fools\u003c\/i\u003e, co-created with Bryan J.L. Glass. While drawing \u003ci\u003eShip of Fools\u003c\/i\u003e, Mike continued with other paying work, such as inking Neil Vokes on \u003ci\u003eNinjack\u003c\/i\u003e and drawing \u003ci\u003eBulletproof Monk\u003c\/i\u003e, which later became a John Woo film.
