About the Author

John Steinbeck (1902–1968) was born in Salinas, California. Steinbeck wrote more than twenty-five works of fiction and non-fiction, including Of Mice and Men (1937), a powerful novel focused on the California laboring class, The Grapes of Wrath (1939), winner of both the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, and East of Eden (1952), an ambitious Cain and Abel family saga of the Salinas Valley. Steinbeck won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1962.
