Drawing on a captivating medieval legend, the novel follows a king’s daughter and heir who, determined to avoid marriage at the height of her ambitions, leads eleven virgins on a journey from Cornwall to Rome. Her suitor, Aetherius, follows close behind. Within each of these remarkable women emerge the same conflicts faced by women today—an enduring ambivalence shaped by fear, desire, and the longing for love.

Set in a world plagued by famine, disease, and war—strikingly reminiscent of our own—Negroni crafts a dazzling feminine epic. Her characters are tragic, vulnerable, and courageous, while her language and style are nothing short of a tour de force. Ursula’s “journey toward the light” becomes a profound search for identity and moral liberation.

María Negroni es autora de numerosos libros: los hay de ensayo, como Ciudad gótica, Museo negro, Galería fantástica o El arte del error; los hay de poesía, como Islandia, Archivo Dickinson, Oratorio o Exilium; los hay inclasificables, como Elegía Joseph Cornell, Objeto Satie, Pequeño mundo ilustrado y Cartas extraordinarias, y están también las novelas El sueño de Úrsula y La anunciación. Su obra ha sido traducida al inglés, francés, italiano, sueco y portugués. Recibió la beca Guggenheim en poesía y el Premio Internacional de Ensayo Siglo XXI. Actualmente dirige la maestría en Escritura Creativa de la Untref en Buenos Aires.
