About the Author

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was an essayist, poet, and novelist. Despite his poor health, he traveled widely to acquire materials for his writings. Early in life, Stevenson came upon the self- realization of his curious and opinionated mind. He could not abide by the conventional norms of society; and thus said, “am I to live my whole life as one falsehood?”
