About the Author

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was an essayist, poet, and novelist. Despite his poor health, he traveled widely to acquire materials for his writings. His most popular works include Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and A Child’s Garden of Verses. Early in life, Stevenson came upon the self-realization of his curious and opinionated mind. He could not abide by the conventional norms of society; and thus said, “am I to live my whole life as one falsehood?”
