About the Author

Simon Akeroyd is author of Grow Your Groceries, due out March 2025.

He is head gardener at Painshill Park, Surrey, UK, and a skilled horticulturist who has written 30 gardening books, many for the RHS and previously two for DK (Shrubs and Small Trees in 2008 and Lawns and Groundcover in 2012). He’s worked at RHS gardens and for the National Trust.

In 2022, he started a TikTok account dedicated to nongardeners. His aim was to show just how easy—and fun—growing plants can be and that it’s always worth a try. He’s had huge engagement since, with his "Grow kiwis from the supermarket" video receiving more than 31 million views. His Instagram audience has now overtaken his TikTok, giving him a combined following of over 1.5 million.
